From Paper to Cloud: Semiconductor Factory Digital Transformation with MES
How can manufacturers move beyond paper-based production records and gain real-time visibility into what is actually happening on the shop floor?
On 20 August 2026, we hosted the MES Smart Manufacturing Workshop at Amari SPICE Penang, bringing together professionals from the semiconductor, electronics, and manufacturing industries to explore practical approaches to smart manufacturing and shop-floor digitalisation.
The session focused on a common challenge faced by manufacturers:
“Production is running — but management cannot always see, in real time, what is happening on the shop floor.”

When production information depends heavily on paper records, manual updates, and people asking one another for status, getting an accurate picture of production can take time.
From Paper-Based Operations to Real-Time Production Visibility
During the workshop, we explored how a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) can digitalise shop-floor operations and connect production activities with real-time data.
The Goal Is Not Simply to Go Paperless
Digitalisation is not just about replacing paper with a screen. The real objective is to give manufacturers better visibility, traceability, and control over production operations.
With the right production data available at the right time, manufacturers can identify problems earlier, understand production progress more clearly, and make decisions based on actual shop-floor information rather than delayed manual reporting.
